Our company participates in the preparation of the Ráckevei (Soroksári-) Danube (hereinafter RSD) Revitalization – preparation project’s Environmental Impact Assessment and the related climate impact modelling tasks with the level of detail required for the preparation of the Feasibility Study. The aim of the project is to revitalize the RSD, improve its water quality, implement green-blue infrastructure and wetland, considering current global environmental challenges, such as climate change, sustainability, and the loss of biodiversity, as well as the improvement of the conditions for the discharge of water in large regions.
The impacts of climate change are particularly affecting Hungary, and as the average temperature rises, so does the water temperature, which impairs the water quality as well as endanger the local ecosystems. In addition to the changes that have taken place so far, we must also pay special attention to future changes, as climate change poses challenges for investments such as the revitalization of the RSD, considering changes in climate parameters, estimating and quantifying directions and trends are essential to prepare properly.
As the first part of our task, we carry out a state assessment, during which we delaminate the impact area, the examined periods, the climate model simulations to be used, climatological parameters, indicators, and calculation methods. In connection with the impact assessment of the RSD project area, the climatological impact assessment provides appropriate climatological information for three impact assessment disciplines: ecology, blue-green infrastructure, and water quality.
